OUTSIDER WINS THE ÖRESUNDSRALLYT 2000 ELECTRIC CAR RALLY.

Over 30 electric cars completed the ÖRESUNDSRALLYT electric car rally at Öresund. Teams from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Luxemburg participated. Specially invited as observer was Professor Dietrich Naunin, the host for the International Electric Vehicle Conference and Exhibition, EVS18, in Berlin next year. Special guests were also Professor Miroslav Cenek from The University in Brno accompanied by Mr Vaclav Saroch from Skoda a.s.

Overall winner was a real outsider. Mr Mats Udéhn, a well-known swedish EV-enthusiast since more then 10 years, and living outside Gothenburg, was to hard to beat for the other teams. His team driving a home-built VW Beach Buggy outperformed teams with more established series produced cars. The team won the dragrace on Friday afternoon, was second in the hill climb on Sunday, and was also top performers in the orienteering and high-way driving contests. They scored a total of 270 points.

Overall second was a very professional team with teamleader Mr Palle Jacobsen from the local danish uitility company Himmerlahos Elforsyning in Aalborg. This team used a Toyota RAV4 electric, a factory prepared car from Toyota normally stationed in Luxemburg. This team was second in the dragrace and third in the hill climb contest. This team scored a total of 230 points.

Overall third was achieved by Mr Per Joergensen Moeller and his team from Virum in Denmark with their Citroén AX. This team scored fourth place in the hill climb event and sixth place in the dragrace. They scored a total of 180 points.

A special prize for best in style was given to the three teams from The Norwegian Post in Oslo for their nice looking red painted cars and rally suits. The three teames, headed by Mr Gudbrand Bakke, were driving two Think City cars and one Peugeot Partner car, and they were all dressed in red matching rally suits. The best team of the three drove a Think City and scored a total of 160 points.

A special prize for most remote team was given to Miss Els van Crombruggen and Mr Erik de Bisschop from Brussels. They represented Citilec, The European Association for Cities promoting clean urban electric transpor-tation. This team scored a total of 140 points.

A special prize for most impressive single achievement was given to Mr Erik Holmkvist and his team with their extreme electric racer Sniper Electric. The team was only able to participate in the last contest of all, the hill climb event on Sunday, because of severe technical problems. But the hard working team managed to test the car 6 km on the road before the hill climb, and then finally came to start. All competitors including the overall winner were very convincingly beaten with several seconds in the hill climb. Both this car and the winner was faster in the hill than a petrol engined Volvo V70 driven real hard. The Sniper team scored 100 points.
